Homemade Spaghetti Meat Sauce

This one-pot homemade spaghetti meat sauce is so flavorful and comes together quickly! Let it simmer for a while for the best flavor and serve on noodles.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. ground beef or turkey

  • 1 sweet onion, diced

  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic

  • 1 8-oz. can tomato sauce

  • 1 28-oz. can crushed or diced tomatoes (see note)

  • 1 Tbsp sugar

  • 1 Tbsp Italian seasoning

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1/4 tsp pepper

Directions:

  1. In a large skillet, cook the ground meat, onion and garlic until the meat is cooked through. Drain any excess fat.

  2. Add in all the remaining ingredients and stir well.

  3. Bring to a low boil, cover and let simmer for 15-30 minutes (the longer it can simmer, the better).

  4. Serve over cooked pasta of choice with some roasted zucchini or these One-Hour Garlic Breadsticks!

Notes:

  • Canned tomatoes: If you like larger chunks of tomatoes, go with the diced tomatoes but it will be more watery (you may need it to simmer longer to get rid of the extra liquid.

  • Adding in green bell pepper is a really easy way to get some extra vegetables in. If using fresh bell pepper, add it in the first step. You can also use a bag of frozen pre-chopped bell pepper and add it in the second step.
